Volunteer of the Month, August 2026
This summer I had the opportunity to work with kids in a whole different way than I ever have before. I’m used to helping kids with math or coloring, but this experience challenged me more than that. I came in not knowing anything about auditory processing or how it helps children. Now I understand why it is so important. Each exercise I did taught me more and more about how the body works and how complicated the human brain is. I never thought there would be so many steps to reading words!
It really put in perspective how different each child is and how putting in the extra effort for each of them can be beneficial. One main skill I’ve learned from my time here is the ability to be more patient with children and adjust to their learning needs. I was able to adapt to each one, something I didn’t know how to do before. I will use what I have learned at my time here with my future career in speech pathology, with my young siblings, and future children.
I’ve grown to love and care for these children and am grateful for the fact that I got to be the one to work with them. I would love to work here and help out again!
